Scanunit Expands PFOS/PFAS-Free Decontamination Services Ahead of 2026 Ban

In partnership with LifeClean and industry-leading collaborators, Scanunit is proud to announce the successful completion of multiple PFOS/PFAS decontamination projects, offering shipowners a future-proof solution for firefighting foam systems.

Following a pioneering test project on M/V Aurora, part of the Öresundslinjen fleet, Scanunit has now successfully decontaminated an additional four vessels, all with excellent results. These projects transformed firefighting installations into fluorine-free systems while ensuring safe removal and responsible waste management of hazardous substances.

The upcoming international ban on PFOS in shipboard firefighting systems, effective 1 January 2026, underscores the urgency for shipowners to act now. By adopting Scanunit’s patented turnkey service, ship operators can reduce PFOS/PFAS content to below 1 PPM, ensuring compliance with IMO Maritime Safety Committee regulations as well as ECHA and EPA requirements.
